Welcome to Ether & Ink! By using our apps and services, you agree to these Terms of Service. These terms apply to all products developed and published by Ether & Ink LLC, including Bibliomancy and Lore Night.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using any Ether & Ink product, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our apps.

2. Description of Services

Bibliomancy is a book tracking and reading management application that allows you to:

  • Catalog and organize your personal book library
  • Track reading progress and set goals
  • Discover your next read through the Oracle spell
  • Earn achievements and track statistics
  • Participate in optional social features like leaderboards and reading parties

Lore Night is a multiplayer book trivia game that allows you to:

  • Host or join live book trivia games with friends
  • Choose wizard personas and collect magical familiars
  • Compete across themed trivia rounds
  • Track scores on the community leaderboard

3. User Accounts

Display Names:

  • You may create a display name (wizard/wizardess name) for social features
  • We strongly recommend NOT using your real name — you're a wizard, be a wizard!
  • Names must be appropriate and not offensive, misleading, or impersonating others
  • We reserve the right to remove inappropriate names

Account Responsibility:

  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your device
  • You are responsible for all activity under your display name

4. Acceptable Use

You agree NOT to:

  • Use our apps for any illegal purpose
  • Submit false or misleading book data
  • Manipulate leaderboards, achievement systems, or community reading counts
  • Artificially inflate or deflate book element votes
  • Create fake or duplicate entries in the book catalog
  • Harass, abuse, or harm other users
  • Attempt to access other users' data
  • Reverse engineer or modify our apps
  • Use automated systems to interact with our apps

User-Generated Content (Reviews, Quotes, Notes & Votes):

When you submit book reviews, share quotes or notes, or vote on book elements, you agree that:

  • Your reviews are your own honest opinions
  • You will not post content that is defamatory, obscene, hateful, or threatening
  • You will not post content containing profanity, slurs, harassment, spam, or sexual content
  • You will not post spam, advertisements, or promotional content
  • You will not impersonate others or post misleading information
  • You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display your shared content
  • We may remove content that violates these guidelines without notice
  • You retain ownership of your original content
  • Community submissions are rate-limited (10 shared entries per day)
  • Shared quotes and notes must be between 10 and 1,000 characters
  • Users must be 13 or older to use community sharing features

Community Features (Book Catalog, Element Voting & Fellowship):

  • When you change a book's reading status, the book's title and author may be added to our shared catalog
  • Only factual, non-personal book data is shared (titles, authors, page counts)
  • Your reading activity contributes to anonymous aggregate counts visible to all users
  • You cannot manipulate or artificially inflate reading counts or vote tallies
  • We reserve the right to remove or correct suspicious catalog entries
  • Helper signups are visible to all users to facilitate party recruitment
  • Recruitment invites and notifications are rate-limited

5. Lore Night (Companion Web Experience)

By using Lore Night, you additionally agree to:

  • Use appropriate, non-offensive display names (names are filtered but you remain responsible)
  • Not cheat, exploit bugs, use automated tools, or manipulate game scores
  • Not harass, spam, or abuse other players during gameplay
  • Not attempt to disrupt games, rooms, or the service for other players
  • Understand that your wizard name, familiar, and scores are visible to other players in your room and on the leaderboard
  • Understand that game data (rooms, answers, scores) is automatically deleted after 24 hours
  • Be 13 years of age or older

We reserve the right to remove players, delete rooms, or reset leaderboard entries that violate these terms.

6. Intellectual Property

Our Content:

  • All Ether & Ink apps, including their design, features, and code, are owned by Ether & Ink LLC
  • The "Bibliomancy," "Lore Night," and "Ether & Ink" names and logos are our intellectual property

Your Content:

  • You retain ownership of notes and annotations you create
  • By using social features, you grant us license to display your chosen name and stats

Third-Party Content:

  • Book covers and descriptions are property of their respective publishers and sources
  • Book metadata is sourced primarily from Open Library and Wikipedia, with Google Books as a limited fallback
  • Wikipedia content is used under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-SA 4.0)

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

Ether & Ink apps are provided "AS IS" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee:

  • Continuous, uninterrupted service
  • Accuracy of book data from third-party sources
  • Preservation of data in case of device failure (please export backups!)
  • Specific results from using our apps

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Ether & Ink LLC shall not be liable for:

  • Loss of data (local or cloud)
  • Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
  • Any damages exceeding the amount you paid for the app (which is $0)

9. Termination

We may terminate or suspend your access to social features if you violate these Terms, engage in abusive behavior, or manipulate app systems. You may stop using our apps at any time by uninstalling them.

10. Changes to Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. Significant changes will be communicated through our apps. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

11. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict of law provisions.
